Details about a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the Horizon series have surfaced online. Currently codenamed “Project Skyline”, the game was originally known as “Project H”. According to a series of job postings discovered by video game researcher Kurakasis, it seems confirmed that the MMORPG is in development.
Horizon MMORPG in development with a team of 140 people
Information from job postings suggests that the game will likely be called “Land of Salvation”. Kurakasis took to Twitter to share his findings, noting that an NCSoft employee posted a job listing on LinkedIn that included a codename logo reminiscent of the Horizon games. Development work is being carried out by around 140 people.
Developed with Unreal Engine 5, the game seems to be planned to be released on both PC and mobile platforms. It is noteworthy that the PlayStation 5 version is not mentioned in the current job postings. The expected launch date points to late 2024, early 2025.
NCSoft’s strategic partnership with Sony, announced a few weeks ago, adds an intriguing layer to this announcement. The partnership aims to go beyond consoles and extend PlayStation’s reach to a wider audience by focusing on collaboration across several global business areas, including mobile gaming. While details of the partnership were not disclosed, the companies said they wanted to leverage NCSoft’s technological expertise and Sony’s global leadership in entertainment.
The leak also confirms an earlier report suggesting that an MMO set in Sony’s Horizon universe is in the works at NCSoft. In addition, NCSoft has registered a domain name for a game called “Land of Salvation”, leading to rumors that this could be the official name of the upcoming Horizon MMORPG.
Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, it’s easy to see how well suited its universe is for an MMORPG. If such a game is released for free, it could be a lot of fun to play. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
